JMA
JMA is Junior Mission for All and is a group of long standing within Methodism, but is unlike any other organisation at it does not meet on a regular basis and concentrates on raising money! However, being a JMA Member is also a lot of fun.
We have a JMA Promise: “I promise to learn, pray and serve with the worldwide Church of Jesus Christ”. We learn by reading Rainbow magazine which comes out about 3 times a year and tells us about people and life in other countries as well as in the UK. In Jennymount we have JMA Morning once or twice a year when we learn about another country, or hear what God is doing in Ireland, and we play games, do crafts, have a quiz and generally have a great time! All that we learn helps us to know what to pray for, and to keep that part of our promise.
Each member gets a collecting card or a bright yellow box with the JMA logo on it, and brings in money during the year which goes towards projects in both Ireland and overseas. It could be used to buy school supplies for children, pay a teacher’s salary, buy medicines, make bricks, sink a well, help buy agricultural equipment, plants or seeds, a fishing boat… all worthwhile projects, which it is great to have a small part in. People raise money in a variety of ways, and many families are deeply committed to the work of God through JMA.
Every year in Jennymount, we hold an Award Service in which a number of Members take part, and the younger people receive a rainbow badge and a certificate to say “Thank You” for all the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm over the previous year. The Certificate shows how much has been collected, and gives something to aim for in the year ahead.
Maybe you’re wondering is this all we do? If you want to know more, do get in touch! We love to have new members, and you can join at any time of the year!
